CHINA-Yunnan ND(1916) Tang Chi Yao Protector of the Republic Commemorative Coin 50 Cents Silver,Y480,L&M-862, NGC MS63.Norcal Collection.Tang Chi Yao (1883-1927), Han nationality, a Huize native in Yunnan, was born in 1883 in a family of books. In 1904, he went to study in Japan and entered the sixth phase of Zhenwu school in Tokyo. Joined the league in autumn 1905. He graduated from Japanese non commissioned officer school in 1908. And returned the following year. He returned to Yunnan in 1909 and served as a teaching officer and engaged in revolutionary activities in the lecture hall. After the outbreak of the revolution of 1911, the heavy nine uprising of Kunming was attended by Cai E. On December 25, 1915, governor Cai E and general Tang Chi Yao jointly telegraphed the whole country to declare the independence of Yunnan, initiated the Uprising of Protecting the Country" to overthrow Yuan Shi Kai and set off the Movement of Protecting the Country. In February 6, 1927, Tang Chi Yao gave up the regime. In May 23, 1927, Tang Chi Yao died at the age of 44, and was buried in Kunming's Tongtong mountain. In 1935, the Kuomintang government was grateful for Tang's patronage and praised it. In 1936, it changed the state funeral into a state funeral, followed by a state funeral ceremony. The bronze statue of Tang Chi Yao was also completed at the Grand View Tower in Kunming.
